Case Planning Services CDA is dedicated to our role as
your partner in providing predictable, high esthetic
restorative solutions. That’s why we are committed to
continuing education with organizations such as The Kois
Center, Great Blue Heron Study Club, Nobel Biocare
Continuing Education and Dr. Brad McPhee’s Dental Collegium.
This commitment means you are working with a staff of
extensively trained technicians using the most progressive
case design strategy Our clinical expertise is applied to
our Diagnostic and Case Planning Services. Proper case
planning is an essential component of successful treatment
strategy and enables you to achieve consistent, predictable
results. Whether you are prescribing a full arch case or a
single tooth replacement, pre-treatment planning can provide
the most customized approach to your patients’ needs and can
assist you in proper material selection. CDA is trained and
highly experienced in offering you the following tools to
assist you in all phases of planning.
Mounted Diagnostic Casts
CDA will mount your casts and die pin the model to
allow you to analyze each tooth’s function in the
treatment plan.
Diagnostic Wax-up
A diagnostic wax-up is prepared on a stone model
detailing the design for proper function and tooth
form. The diagnostic wax-up is fabricated with
traditional diagnostic monochromatic wax. Patients can
literally see their new smile and you can ensure more
predictable results with this proper case planning tool.
Single Tooth Implant Provisionals
If preferred, CDA can supply you with a custom implant
temporary fabricated from your pick-up impression or
create one from a custom matrix created at the time of
insertion. Please call if you have questions regarding
this procedure.
Preparation Template
A preparation template can be fabricated from the
diagnostic wax-up using a transparent plastic. This
template can be used to visually measure tooth reduction
for predictable results. Simply seat the template over
the prepared teeth to ensure adequate clearance has been
provided for the technician to fabricate the case.
Putty matrix for Chairside Temps
Additionally, a putty matrix can be prepared of the
diagnostic wax-up for easy and predictable fabrication
of chairside temporaries.
For complete information as well as a step-by-step
chairside technique, please refer to our
Diagnostic
Case Planning Services Tech Sheet.

Custom In-Lab Shades
You can be confident your patients will feel comfortable and
at ease in our lab when having a custom shade. We use the
X-Rite Shade Vision System to take precision optical
measurements. This handheld device responds to light in a
manner similar to that of the human eye. The shade-matching
instrument is able to accurately identify the shade of the
tooth by measuring the tooth in terms of hue, value and
chroma and provides an accurate detailed image.

Procera
Alumina and Procera Zirconia
Procera Alumina and Procera Zirconia offer you two proven
all-ceramic restorations that combine the vital, translucent
esthetics of an all-ceramic with the strength and durability
of a PFM. The Procera system provides two levels of core
selection and material strength – The original aluminum
oxide core of 687 MPa’s of flexural strength and the newer
Zirconia core with 1158 MPa’s of flexural strength.
Procera Alumina is composed of densely sintered high-purity
aluminum oxide that is available in two layers of thickness
– .4mm for anteriors and .6mm for posteriors. Procera
Zirconia, made of yttria stabilized zirconium (YSZ),
provides almost twice the strength of the original alumina.
In addition, it can be placed anywhere in the mouth and can
accommodate bridges up to 14 units. For compete information,
please refer to our Procera Tech Sheet.
Indications
Procera Alumina – single crowns (bicuspid forward)
Procera Zirconia – single crowns (all areas) and bridgework
up to 14 units
Contraindications
Not recommended when bruxism and/or periodontal problems
exist
Cementation
Traditional cementation or adhesive bonding

IPS Empress Esthetic and IPS e.max
In many cases, an all-ceramic restoration that is stronger
than stacked porcelain is needed to achieve the ideal
esthetic result. Pressed ceramic is ideal in these
situations. Our recommendation for pressed glass
restorations is IPS Empress Esthetic and the new IPS e.max
porcelains.
IPS Empress Esthetic remains the ultimate leucite reinforced
pressed glass ceramic, featuring a broader range of ingot
shades and layering porcelains. It continues to be the
ultimate benchmark for highly esthetic pressed porcelain
veneers, inlays/onlays and single tooth replacements
(bicuspid forward).
The new IPS e.max system now broadens the spectrum of
ceramic IPS alternatives, providing the ultimate in
metal-free esthetics with a single (universal) overlay
porcelain that can be layered or pressed to the higher
strength core materials of lithium disilicate and zirconia.
Indications
IPS Empress Esthetic – pressed porcelain veneers, inlays/onlays
and single crowns (bicuspid forward)
IPS e.max – layered porcelain veneers, single crowns and
bridgework up to 4 units
Contraindications
Not recommended when a more conservative option (stacked)
can be used as it requires a minimal preparation of 1.0mm
Cementation
Enamel-dentin adhesive bonding system
Preparation Guidelines
For preparation guidelines, please refer to the
IPS
Empress Esthetic/IPS e.max Prep Guide.

Lava Zirconia
The Lava All-Ceramic System from 3M ESPE is an innovative
CAD/CAM technology for all-ceramic crowns and bridges on a
zirconium oxide base. The esthetics and biocompatibility of
Lava restorations represent the optimum in all-ceramic
systems.
Lava preparations require removal of less tooth structure
and cementation can be accomplished using proven,
conventional techniques. Colorable frameworks that are thin
and translucent ensure a natural and vital appearance. Lava
provides one of the most durable and esthetic all-ceramic
restorations.
Indications
Single crowns and bridgework up to 3-4 units for the
anterior and posterior region
Contraindications
Not recommended with a feather edge preparation, as it does
not provide adequate room for porcelain build-up, or the
trough/”gutter” shoulder because of scanning error potential
Cementation
Traditional cementation or adhesive bonding
Preparation Guidelines
For preparation guidelines, please refer to the
Preparation Guidelines Tech Sheet. |

CDA Gold Crowns
Gold is the precious metal that has captured the imagination
since ancient times and it continues to be the preferred
choice for restorations by both patients and clinicians due
to its longevity, durability and biocompatibility. We offer
several gold types, from noble white and yellow to high
noble white and yellow. Our most requested gold restoration
is our high noble yellow 58% gold.
In addition, we carry several highly biocompatible alloys
for unique cases. Please call to discuss options and/or
alternatives to our basic alloys. |
